What Is an Austrian Vignette?
A vignette is a toll sticker required in Austria for using motorways and expressways. It must be affixed visibly to the vehicle's windscreen. Since 2018, a digital vignette (eVignette) is also available, which can be purchased online and is automatically linked to the vehicle's registration plate.
Enforcement is carried out by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras as well as manual checks by police and ASFINAG staff. Driving without a valid vignette can result in significant fines.
