What is a vignette?
A vignette is a toll sticker required for using Austrian motorways and expressways.
Where can I buy a vignette?
Vignettes are available online (ASFINAG eShop), at petrol stations, motorway service areas, and border crossings.
What is the difference between a sticker and eVignette?
The sticker vignette is physically affixed to the windscreen. The eVignette is digital and linked to the registration plate.
How long is a 10-day vignette valid?
The 10-day vignette is valid for 10 consecutive days from the purchase date.
How much does an annual vignette for a car cost?
The annual vignette for a car costs € 96.40 and is valid from 1 December to 31 January of the following year.
Do motorcycles need a separate vignette?
Yes, motorcycles require a separate motorcycle vignette at a lower tariff.
What happens if I drive without a vignette?
Driving without a valid vignette can result in a replacement toll of € 120 or an administrative fine of up to € 300.
Can I buy the eVignette in advance?
Yes, the eVignette can be purchased up to 18 days before the desired validity start date.
Does the vignette apply to all Austrian roads?
No, only to motorways and expressways. No vignette is required on federal roads.
What are special toll sections?
Certain routes (e.g. Brenner, Tauern) require an additional toll charge in addition to the vignette.
How is the vignette checked?
By automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and manual checks by police and ASFINAG staff.
Can I cancel an already activated eVignette?
No, an activated eVignette cannot be cancelled or transferred.
